Goals:

I hope that you will learn:

Textbook:

Fromkin, V. and Rodman, R. (1998) An Introduction to Language
(Sixth Edition). Harcourt Brace College Publishers.

Grading:

You should do the readings BEFORE the lecture on Wednesdays. On Fridays, you should be prepared to discuss with the TA. Of course, you can also ask questions and make comments during the Wednesday lectures, if you want to. Almost every week there will be some short exercises. They will usually be assigned on Friday and due the following Wednesday at the beginning of class. The term paper should be no more than 8 pages, typed, double- spaced. You can write the paper in Chinese if you want. If you write in English, don't worry, because the English won't affect the grade. The paper is due on 1/13. We'll talk about paper topics before that. You can write about almost any linguistic topic that interests you.
