The College of Management is one of the five original Colleges established by National Chung-Cheng University. When the college was established in 1989, it consisted of only three graduate institutes, namely the Graduate Institute of International Economics, the Graduate Institute of Finance, and the Graduate Institute of Business Administration. Since then, two additional graduate institutes, the Graduate Institute of Accounting and the Graduate Institute of Information Management, have been ceated. In addition, five undergraduate departments, the Dept. of Economics, the Dept. of Finance, the Dept. of Business Administration, the Dept. of Accounting, and the Dept. of Information Management, have been created to offer undergraduate programs. Today, the College of Management, through its various graduate institutes and undergraduate departments offers comprehensive academic programs, ranging from BA, MBA, to the Ph.D. degree.
In spite of its short history, the college has enjoyed a very high reputation not only in Taiwan but also internationally. Therefore, the college has been able to attract high caliber teaching and research faculties from major research universities across the world and first rate students. The college is housed in a modern six-storied H-shaped building complex, which has a floor space of over nineteen thousand square meters. A site adjacent to the current building complex is reserved for a proposed second building complex. When completed it will enable the college to expand and develop new academic programs in order to meet the rapidly changing needs of a modern society The college has excellent facilities. Each faculty member is offered a modern and spacious research office equipped with the latest personal computer, which is connected through a LAN to the University's mainframe computing center and the world-wide-web. Computers in the faculty offices and various student labs of the college are always being upgraded on a regular basis. The state-of-the-art computer technology allows faculty and students to easily gain access to domestic and international database and other information necessary for research and teaching. Since its inception, the college has been committed to excellence and has put great emphasis on the collection and build-up of research and teaching materials. Each year a substantial amount of resources have been put aside for this purpose. We subscribe to most of the relevant important academic journals (including back issues) in the world and new books are continuously being purchased. In addition, an efficient inter-library loan system is available and can be used to easily access research materials currently not available on campus. As the University in general and the college in particular are aiming to become a top-tier international institution, cooperation with foreign universities has been an important endeavor. We have now entered into faculty and student exchange agreements with several well-known universities, such as New Asia College, Chinese University of Hong Kong; School of Management, Fudan University; and College of Business, California Polutechnic State University. This provides our teachers and students with additional opportunities to expose themselves to the outside world and broaden their perspectives and at the same time enhance the college's international profile.
The university is situated in the scenic south part of Taiwan. Under the current government economic policy, this region has a great potential for economic development in the years to come and the presence of the university has served as a catalyst in this regard. The college emphasizes both theoretical research and practical applications. It has been training professionals in the private sector and upgrading industrial technology levels for this part of the island. The college can therefore play a pivotal role in the regional development by collaborating with local business sectors.
